Boxed Identity

Year: 2023

Boxed Identity is a singular meditation on containment and selfhood. Centered around one lone box, this quilt introduces a visual language in my work where the box symbolizes identity—defined, enclosed, and shaped by external forces. It marks the beginning of my exploration into how form can mirror the experience of being categorized or confined.

Unlike later works that explore patterns or inherited repetition, Boxed Identity isolates the experience. It reflects the quiet weight of being placed inside a structure not of your own making—whether by family, society, or circumstance. The solitary box becomes a stand-in for the self, asking what parts of us are kept inside, what’s kept out, and what’s pushing against the seams.
