Transformation Stage 2
Year: 2024

Dimensions: 27" x 30"
This quilt is called Transformation Stage 2, which is part of a series that looks at the transformation that occurs within culture through forced or chosen migration. Stage 2 looks at the act of rebuilding what we know, even if we desire something new.
I think there is always a stage of reinventing the wheel before accepting the challenge to change. This quilt represents the calm before the storm, a stage that is easy to get stuck in, since the familiar can be comfortable and safe. In accepting the change that comes with movement, however, new possibilities can emerge.
I think, though, that those initial possibilities are always rooted in what we know, thus making change an incredibly long process. I often wonder what pushes people to move past this point and truly seek something different.
